Math Masters Unite: Strategies for Paper 3 in DP HL Mathematics
Saturday February 22, 2025 9:00am - 12:00pm KST
TBA
If you teach HL Mathematics, you're likely familiar with the unique challenges presented by Paper 3. How do we effectively prepare our students for an exam with unspecified content? How can we ensure fair assessment after we've used up all the past paper questions? When is the optimal time to begin preparing students for this critical component and how do we do it? In this collaborative session, we will engage in meaningful discussions to share best practices, insights from the IB, and expertise from seasoned educators.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
+ Explore Effective Strategies: Begin with discussions and analyses of various approaches to teaching Paper 3, including problem-solving techniques and exam strategies.
+ Resource Sharing: Exchange valuable resources, materials, and tools that can enhance preparation for Paper 3
+ Focus on Collaborative Question Development: The majority of our time will be dedicated to working together to create a set of Paper 3 questions. This collaborative effort will mean that you leave with practical Paper 3 assessments ready for your classrooms.

We look forward to a productive session that equips you with the tools and strategies to effectively prepare and assess your students on Paper 3!

Mindfulness Matters: help lead your school community towards more equanimity and wellness
Saturday February 22, 2025 1:00pm - 2:30pm KST
TBA

In this session, educators will be able to explore and discuss how the regular practice of mindfulness in our schools can lead to more positive outcomes in terms of student and community equanimity and wellness.  They will be invited to share their experiences and questions throughout.

A number of questions will initially be explored in the first part of the session including:

- what is mindfulness?

- what is mindfulness meditation?

- what are the general benefits of mindfulness?

- how can mindfulness be 'introduced' into already busy school days?

- how can we 'be mindful, teach mindfully, teach mindfulness?'

- how can schools best support each other in terms of mindfulness development awareness?

As the session develops, the focus will shift to the pragmatics of introducing and sustaining mindfulness in our schools:

- Chantal Terblanche will share her experiences of developing lower school mindfulness at Young Hoon Elementary School;

- Bora Rancic will talk about his work as Dwight Leader of Mindfulness, including the ups and downs of rolling out ‘Mindful Moments’, a Lower School mindfulness curriculum that is being established in partnership with the Mindful Sparks organisation;

- Cathal McCarron and Mark McShea will share how their Korea Kent Foreign School Character and Mindfulness Committee work together to guide mindfulness provision, including how they ensure that the whole school practises mindfulness on a daily basis and, to conclude;

- Cathal will lead a 30 mins workshop in which he will outline how the free Audacity recording software can be used to create mindfulness guided breathing audio recordings - an effective foundation towards establishing an authentic and sustainable connection between the teacher, as mindfulness leader, and their students.

By the end of the session, participants will have a better understanding of how mindfulness is being discussed and practised in a number of KORCOS schools and, most importantly, a takeaway list of mindfulness tools and resources they can draw on as they go forward with their students and communities.  They will also be invited to join MINDKORCS (Mindful Korean Schools), a group of over eighty teachers who are working together to develop mindfulness in Korea and beyond.
